Thank You!! That's always a hazard for skinny-tired bikes carrying panniers, but it's especially prevalent on the FKOHT currently, due to bits of debris near construction sites and along the bridges. Museum sells books and other items. Cooktown to Gunnawarra; the Trail passes through rain forest, gold fields and historical tin mining towns.

We wanted to get to Marathon to take on 7 Mile Bridge early in the morning. Bartram mentioned that it was now about the middle of April. The following day they reached the Upper Store. Now the cons. Since the Trail opened, people have travelled all or parts of the Trail with camels and donkeysas well as horses and mountain bikes.

Nice resort with a bar great views of the gulf. Great views, tiki bar and pool. The next year, a public-private partnership began forging a master plan for development and maintenance of the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail. The Lower Store served as a distribution point for the Upper Store and the trading houses at Alachua and at Talahosochte on the Suwanee River, and was the center to which shipments of Indian goods were sent for dispatch to Savannah or Sunbury and eventually to Europe.

We did the complete ride and rode across all bridges including the 7 mile bridge with no problems. If you are comfortable on the road, a Highway The Trail consists of several hundred sites of significance to African Americans in Florida Connecting side trails are included in the back of the book.

Thank You!!

Also, I'm asking the same question that others have asked in reviews - why are the some of the rebuilt bridges for bikers and walkers closed and there are no signs to let you know this until you get to the bridge many times having to cross the road and find them locked.

For experienced cyclists only December, by jelkslg Our group of 8 riders was very excited to ride this trail. He next stopped somewhere between Racy Point and Tocoi Creek; the description of the still lagoon indicates that it might well have been the cove at the mouth of Tocoi Creek. Cooktown to Gunnawarra; the Trail passes through rain forest, gold fields and historical tin mining towns.

It was a great experience as we concluded our trip with two days in Key West. Go to dinner at The Fish House for the best seafood in the Keys especially Yellowtail snapper in lemon sauce. Between Lochloosa Creek and present Hawthorne they fell into the old trading path and encamped for the night at Halfway Pond Cowpen Lake as before, returning next day to the Lower Store.

Highly recommended. We decided it was safer to ride in the bike lane rather than crossing the road in most cases exceptions being the Long Bridge and Old Dixie Highway. However, everyone should consider the wind conditions, especially when riding over the 7 mile bridge.

The old bridge—located parallel to the new Seven-Mile Highway 1 Bridge—no longer crosses the entire distance between Marathon and the Lower Keys, but the remaining portion is open for bike and foot traffic to Pigeon Key, a small island also accessible by a ferry from Marathon with a museum telling the history of the East Coast Railway.
